2009 Beauties of America Pageant

Winter 2009 - Pageantry Magazine
Stunning in Silver
Beauties of America celebrates its 25th anniversary
with a Myrtle Beach weekend to remember
The 25th annual Beauties of America national pageant
shined brightly on its silver anniversary with its
most spectacular national pageant ever. Celebrating
beauty and achievement at every age, the 2009 national
delegates enjoyed a fun-filled weekend in Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina, with the breathtaking Myrtle Beach
Convention Center as the venue.
The pageant began on Thursday, at the Convention Center
with the 2009 delegates arriving throughout the day.
After checking in at the adjacent Sheraton Hotel, a
four-diamond resort located in the heart of Myrtle
Beach, delegates enjoyed orientation where they met
the 2008 national queens and pageant staff, received
gift bags and goodies from the pageant and its sponsors,
and were greeted by National Director Jennifer Reed.
Following an overview of the pageant weekend and an
official welcome by each of the 2008 national queens,
each delegate was presented with a certificate of Participation
by the Beauties of America Pageant and individually
acknowledged as a Beauties of America state title holder.
Beauties of America delegates were then whisked away
to their opening night dinner party via stretch Hummer
limousine. Upon their arrival at the Hard Rock Café,
delegates were escorted to a private dining room to
enjoy their visit, but not before signing autographs
and taking photos with tourists and fans that had gathered
at the restaurant.
Upon returning to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center,
delates attended An Evening with the Queens, a seminar
featuring a presentation by each of the outgoing national
queens. The 2008 Beauties of America queens shared
their thoughts and tips on competing, representing
the title and enjoying the pageant experience.
The 2009 Beauties of America delegates quickly switched
gears on Friday morning, when the Interview portion
of the competition began. During interviews, each delegate
met with the judges' panel for a five-minute interview
session, which was worth 40 percent of a delegate's
total score. Following interviews, the judges scored
the Photogenic segment of the competition (worth 10
percent) before concluding that day's competitive events.
Delegates also spent time on Friday preparing for Saturday's
pageant finals by rehearsing the opening number and
pageant format. The 2009 judges' panel consisted of
a "who's who" of the pageant and business
worlds and included Laureen Oglesby of Pageantry magazine;
Dr. Ronald Bergman of Bergman Cosmetic Surgery; Connie
Ross-Karl, 2007 Ms. Senior South Carolina; Melissa
Hall, former Miss Minnesota USA, Mrs. Minnesota America
and fitness expert; Pat Andrews, former newspaper columnist
and current Michigan Congressional delegation member;
and Ashley Tucker-Swathwood, former national title
holder and Pageantry columnist.
On Friday evening, Beauties of America delegates had
a chance to relax and unwind by attending yet another
glamorous event in Myrtle Beach. Once again transported
by limousine, delegates experienced the excitement
of Planet Hollywood. While there, 2009 delegates, 2008
national queens and staff dined on delicious menu selections,
and were treated like celebrities.

Planet Party: The 2009 delegates were treated like
celebrities being whisked away by limousine to celebrate
the Pageant's 25th anniversary and the week's events
with dinner at Planet Hollywood.
The pageant finals were presented to a nearly sold
out audience, and began with an opening number set
to "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas,
against a glittering, newly designed stage setting
of silver and pink. In addition to featuring delegates
in competitive events of Fitness and Evening Gown (each
comprising 25 percent of a delegate's score), the show
included a wonderful performance by Rick Alviti, the
official entertainer of the Beauties of America Pageant,
who serenaded the delegates as they returned to the
stage for the announcement of the award winners and
crowning of the 2009 national queens.
After a heartfelt farewell to the outstanding 2008
national queens, it was time to announce the 2009 Beauties
