Pancake experts Dr. Ron Bergman and Dr. Bryan Folkers of Bergman Folkers Plastic Surgery hit the griddle this week in honor of National Nurses Week. The two put their expertise to use by making and serving pancakes to nurses.
On October 12, Dr. Bryan Folkers, his family, office manager and nurse Kim Kingkade, and her family ran in the Katie’s Crusaders 5K in Waukee, Iowa. The event, which Bergman Folkers Plastic Surgery helped sponsor, is held to generate support for families battling breast cancer.
Katie’s Crusaders was started in 2009 by Katie Mangan, and her family and friends in an effort to help families struggling with breast cancer.
Our team at Bergman Folkers is proud of everyone who participated in the event and grateful to be able to help such a good cause.
Dr. Bergman and Dr. Folkers attended Mercy Medical Center’s Annual General Surgery Residency program retreat and golf outing on August 23rd, 2013. The program provided educational programming followed by golf and social time for residents and faculty.

Doctors Ronald Bergman and Ryan Folkers were able to save the arm of 62-year-old Thomas Krengel in a four-hour surgery after he was attacked by two chow chows at a friend’s home on June 12.
According to Krengel, he was trying to let his friend’s chow chows, Chico and Monte, into the house. When trying to break up the two dogs, who were copulating, Krengel was attached. The dogs bit down on Krengel’s arm when he used it protect his throat. The attack caused damage to the skin, tendons, arteries, and even the forearm bone.
Sergeant Jim Butler, chief humane officer with the Des Moines Police Department, said the male dog, Monte, was ordered to be euthanized on Monday, July 1.
The plastic surgeons, who specialize in performing surgeries on victims who have been attacked by dogs, also recently treated a Dallas County woman and a 4-year-old Prairie City girl.
